Deacon Stanley Marks 69 departed this life on the morning of January 24, 2018, after a lengthy illness, he was surrounded by family and friends. Stanley was born on November 5, 1948 to the late Oliver Marks, Sr. and Juanita Mayhew Marks in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the third child of six children. Mary, Janice, and Oliver Marks, Jr., preceded him in death. Stanley completed his education at the School District of Philadelphia. Upon his graduation, Stanley enlisted in the United States Army and achieved the rank of Sergeant, serving his country for 8 years and 9 months. After leaving the Army with an Honorable Discharge, he enrolled in night classes at the Community College of Philadelphia where he received an Associates Degree in Human Services. Before uniting in Marriage with his current wife MaryAnn Marks for 22 years, who was a Social Worker, Stanley was preceded in death by his first wife Lorraine. Stanley joined Thankful Baptist Church under the Leadership of the late Rev. Harrison J. Trapp. He was ordained as a Deacon by the late Rev. Ivan B. Hewitt in 2003. Stanley was a member of the Sanctuary Choir and past Men's Day Chairperson as well as Co-Chairperson for the Joint Anniversary. Stanley was a talented singer, during his younger years, he was a member of the renown Paul Roberts Singers and sang with the Mass Choir of the George Fredric Handel's Messiah, singing Bass and Baritone. Stanley was a Residential Counselor for CATCH Inc. for 26 years but retired when his health failed. Stanley was a lover of Politics, he would watch MSNBC and CNN every day to catch up on the politics of today, he even had debates with other family members. Stanley leaves behind a legacy, his wife of 22 years MaryAnn Marks, 2 step-daughters Nesha Sullivan and Shonta Sullivan, 11 grandchildren Shanae O'dell Sullivan, Levi Tyree Rivers, Ayanna Monet Sullivan, Kiara Sullivan-Young, Ashanti Sullivan-Parker, Jasmine Sullivan, Reggie Lofton, Joseph Sullivan, Jamiya Sullivan-Lofton, Janaye Sullivan, and Jayden Sullivan, 1 great grandchild Shantel Kemp, siblings Juanita Boyer (Edward "Lefty") of Philadelphia, PA., Edward (Lois) of Deptford, New Jersey, Donald Marks (Bonnie) of Atlanta, Georgia, 2 sisters-in-law Geraldine Shockley of Stratford, New Jersey, Patricia Mae Fuller (Ernest) of Lindenwold, New Jersey, brother-in-law James Shockley of Norristown, Pennsylvania, Nieces Shelia, Lois, and Bernetta of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Nephews Billie, Richard Sewell, Jason Sewell, and Gregory Loimbish and a host of cousins, friends, and other loved ones.
