On Friday, September 28, 2018. The Lord called into glory our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend; Edna Lorraine Allen Smith.
Edna Lorraine Allen was born September 3, 1927, the third of four children born to Richard and Lucille Allen in Philadelphia, PA.
Edna's family church is St. Paul's Baptist Church where at an early age she accepted Christ and was baptized. Edna was an active member and she loved serving on the food distribution committee, which she did faithfully up until the time of her illness. She was loved and highly thought of by both those she worked with and those she served.
Edna was educated in the Philadelphia School System. Edna Allen and Ernest Smith Senior were united in marriage in June of 1946, from this union two children were born; Ernest, Jr. and Beverly Diane.
Edna worked at the VA for a short period - of -time and then to the Naval Supply Depot where she retired after 20+ years of service.
During her younger years, she loved to travel and go on trips with her sister friend, Barbara Smith.
Edna was also very independent and in her later years, unknowing to anyone, she would go for long walks and bus rides all over the Philadelphia region, she was able to do this up until her early eighties.
Edna loved spending time with her family and loved going out to different restaurants with her sister Hazel and Brother-in-law Fredrick Robbins, they all had one thing in common -they loved to eat.
Edna's favorite family event was preparing and cooking Thanksgiving dinner for the entire family (and she could COOK!). She did, however have one stipulation to you attending the dinner, and that was no one could leave until all of her special black handle silverware was accounted for!
Edna will be forever missed and remembered by all those that knew her and loved her. She is preceded in death by three sisters; Mary Lee, Pauline and Carol; one brother; Zelaer and one granddaughter; Rache.
Edna leaves to cherish her memories; husband Ernest Sr., son; Ernest Jr. (Yolanda), daughter; Beverly Diane, three grandchildren; Timbesia, Malik and Joi, great-granddaughter; Tamar, sister; Hazel (Fredrick) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
