Rosa Lee Gilliland was born September 15, 1921 in Newberry, South Carolina to the late Thomas Dawkins and Julia Gibson. She moved to Asheville, North Carolina where she married Edward Gilliland (deceased) and had 4 children. She was educated in Brickton, North Carolina.
Later in life, she moved to Philadelphia where she made it her permanent home. She worked for the Naval Shipyard in South Philadelphia for many years until she retired. After her retirement, she spent time with her grandchildren, helping to raise them. She loved her grandchildren with all her heart and never hesitated to jump in and do whatever is needed.
Affectionately known as Granny, she loved cooking and did it faithfully every Sunday. This is a family trait that has been passed on and still practiced today. She traveled to the King of Prussia mall with her daughter Julia almost every weekend. Everyone knew her, she was not a stranger.
Rosa was a part of the following Fraternal Affiliations:
*Henry R. Shockley #15, Order of Eastern Star
*Ella S. Davis Royal Court #15, Order of Cyrene
*Philadelphia Court #1, Ladies of the Circle of Perfection
*Pyramid Court #12, Daughter of Isis
